Welcome to the Utah Asterisk Users' Group website. This site is simple and will be free to use for all law-abiding Asterisk users with a focus on local (to Utah) Asterisk users and talent. We will announce users' group meetings here. The user forums will provide a good place to discuss ideas and we will have a regularly featured article with a new tip or idea. Gurus will be given blog space where we can all visit and read and be impressed by their great guruhood.
If you have something you would like to present, please contact me via the UTAUG google group. Our planned keynote speaker was killed in a bizarre VoIP related accident. He should have used a pots line. Oh well. If nobody steps forward, you will have to hear from me again in which case, please poll amongst yourselves on what you would like to talk about. There are many topics to choose from including "Strategies for Winning the Game of Parcheesi."
Next UTAUG meeting Tuesday Oct. 9, 2007 at the SLC library. Dave Packham, the IT architect for the University of Utah will be speaking:
getting exchange 2007 to work with * and sipx
hope to see you there. There are also rumblings of an Asterisk Bootcamp in the next little while. Let me put in a good word for Digium and the advantage to a large organization running a custom install of Asterisk to have at least one member of their IT staff well trained in handling Asterisk.
we will meet at the Salt Lake City Library downtown (usual place) at 7pm. check the digital marquee on the main level to find the room.
when we convene we will hold a vote to see which of the following presentations to ejoy:
possible topic 1:
building your own nifty telecommunications sandbox using XEN, OpenVZ, SER, OpenSER, and Asterisk all on a single server.
possible topic 2:
Class 5 switch on the cheap: how to insert SER and an ODBC compliant database such as MySQL into a TDM network for billing, routing, etc.
possible topic 3:
trixbox jam session: how to take the lastest trixbox and use every possible feature along with a few extras for major thrills.
Bring your broken Asterisk servers (or a way to SSH to them) and we will combine forces to make them work (if enough talent shows up). Jared Smith has sent me his Astricon Presentation entitled "10 Things You’ve Probably Never Done with Asterisk" (along with permission to present it to UTAUG) which I will muddle through as well. Many juicy secrets to be revealed!
UTAUG support group will be gathering for vespers and libations tomorrow at 7:00pm in the SLC library. This is the perfect place to cool off after an argument with your wife about what you did to the phones while she was on the phone... again.
Carl's September UTAUG presentation:
valuable problem solving for people with call quality issues!
"Asterisk in the Trenches: One small company's struggle to set up a reliable open-source phone system." presented by Carl Youngblood.
if you have had call quality troubles, setup issues, reliability issues in your Asterisk installation experience, this is the meeting for you!
